Joe places a $15.00 Maximum Bid for the camera.
This is Where Automatic Bidding Comes into Play!
Your budget (Maximum Bid) of "$25.00" is higher than Joe's bid. At this point, a price equal to Joe's $15.00 bid plus the lowest Incremental Bid of $1.00, which is $16.00, is placed automatically for you. The Current Price is updated to $16.00. | |
Note: Automatic Bidding has the advantage of bidding for an item at the lowest possible price set by you. The Current Price is usually the second highest bid price plus the lowest Bid Increment added to it.
In other words, Automatic Bidding will raise the Current Price as little as possible while staying within your budget, and provide you with a better chance of winning the bid.
Joe's bid is lower than your budget of $25.00, and he will see a "You have been outbid" (you are not the High Bidder, and thus cannot win the auction) message. He cannot see your Maximum Bid of $25.00, and does not feel like paying over $15.00 for the camera. Joe decides not to re-bid.
