Step 2: Bid for an item
Once you find an item you wish to bid on, click on the "Place a bid" button located on the right-hand side of the item screen to place a bid. There are two "Place a bid" buttons on the top and bottom of the screen. Click on either button to place a bid.
- Enter your bid amount in 14 "Maximum bid amount".
"Maximum bid amount" is the maximum price that you are willing to pay for this particular item. In other words, this is your budget.
- The "Maximum bid amount" entered in 14 must be higher than the value in 12 "Current high bid".
Note!: If there are other bidders competing for the item with you, the amount in "Current high bid" is the second highest "Maximum bid amount" of your competitor plus the bid increment (For details about bid increment, please see "What are the bid increments?"). The highest "Maximum bid amount" (which is your competitor's maximum allowable price) is not displayed. For details, please see "Tips and Info on Automatic Bidding and Straight Bidding".
- Enter your password in 15, and press the "Confirmation" button in 16.
1. Title: Auction name created by Seller
2. Watch list: Click this to add an interesting item to the Watch list where you can see the "Current high bid", "High bidder" and "Remaining Time".
3. Seller: The Seller of this particular item. Click this to check other items being sold by this Seller.
4. Rating: Click this to list the ratings and comments from previous bidders of this Seller.
5. # of Items: If this value is over 2, there are more than one of the same item on sale, and they are being auctioned separately. Please enter a value before you bid.
6. Yahoo! Auctions ID: This value is created automatically when the item is first offered for bidding.
7. Note: The following notes may be displayed . Please refer below for their meaning. "Auction does not get automatically extended"- When this message is NOT displayed, the auction closing time is automatically extended for 5 minutes if a bid is placed 5 minutes before the posted closing time. If this message is displayed, the 5 minute extension will not be used and the auction will close at the posted closing time. "Seller can close auction early"- If the Seller is satisfied with the current High Bid, and wishes to sell the item to the current High Bidder as soon as possible, the Seller can close the auction before the posted closing time. "The seller also has a reserve price"- Twenty-four (24) hours prior to the close of auction, the system will boost the start price to reflect the reserve price if the bidding activity has not reached the reserve price at that time, and the High Bidder information will be reset. "There is a buy price on this auction of: $--.--"- The auction automatically closes when a bidder meets that buy price. "Seller will ship internationally"- The Seller is prepared to ship the item out of United States.
8. Time Left: The days remaining to the closing date.
9. Exact Time Remaining: Uses JAVA to calculate the hours and seconds remaining to closing time. This is useful when placing a bid near the closing time.
10. Number of Bids: The number of bids placed for this item since auction start.
11. Bid History: Click this to see all of the Bidder and Bid amount information associated with this aucton.
12. Current Bid: If there are none or only one bidder, the Start Price is automatically the Current Price. If there are more than one bidders, the Current Price is the second highest bid plus the Bid Increment. (For more details, please refer to Tips and Info on Automatic Bidding and Straight Bidding.)
13. High Bidder: The person current with the highest bid, in other words the person most likely to win the auction at this time. If no bidders have joined the auction yet, this area is blank. Click this to see their item list.
14. Maximum Bid: Enter the maximum price you are willing to pay for this item (your budget). Yahoo! Auctions uses an Automatic Bidding system that automatically and repeatedly raises your bid to a value higher than a rival bid, within the maximum limit you specify here. (For more details, please refer to Tips and Info on Automatic Bidding and Straight Bidding.)
15. Password: Please enter your Yahoo! password.
16. Confirm: After entering your Maximum Bid Amount and Password, click on the "Confirm" button. Check you bid information again, and click on the "Place This Bid" button.
17. Question and Answer: Click this to see questions from other bidders, along with the seller's responses. You can ask the seller a question by filling in the Question form, which will be sent to the seller. All questions that have been replied by the seller will be listed here in Question and Answer format.
18. Item Information: The following information will help describe the item on auction. Photo- You can see the item or check on its condition. Description- Information provided by the seller such as the age, condition and origin of the item is listed here.
19. Seller's Profile: Confirm the following prerequisites that the seller specifies. Payment Options- The payment method that the seller requests. Can be bank draft, postal money order, cash, COD or credit cards. Shipping Options- The shipping method that the seller requests, such as who will pay shipping, the timing of the shipping (after receiving payment, or immediately after auction closure).
20. Started at: The Starting Price used at the beginning of the auction which the seller decides.
21. Bid Increment: The Bid Increment that is automatically chosen depending upon the Starting Price. (Example: An item with a Current Price of $10.01 to $50.00 will have a Bid Increment of $1.00. For more details, please refer to "What are the bid increments?".) At the minimum, you must bid a price equal to the current price plus the bid increment.
22. Opened: The date and time when the Auction opened.
23. Closes: The date and time when the auction closes.
